YPG Fellowship

Youth in Policy and Governance Fellowship

One of Pokhara Research Centre’s flagship projects, the Youth in Policy and Governance (YPG) Fellowship, combines elements of applied research and tactical communication in a modern program design to produce a cohort of twelve promising young change agents of Nepal’s tomorrow.

YPG was born Pre-Professional Parliamentary Support Program in 2020 with a cohort of twelve fellows in Gandaki province. After the second cycle, the PPSP was rebranded in its current identity as the “Youth in Policy and Governance” fellowship in 2022. In its four years of operation, the fellowship has expanded to three of the seven provinces of Nepal.

The flagship project is currently in its transformation as a legislative studies credit course aimed at fostering a supply of trained professionals suited to cater to the research and policy-specific informational needs of the 550 members of the seven provincial assemblies in Nepal.

The fellow’s principal responsibility is to provide significant research support to MPA in the functioning of their parliamentary activity, limited to the scope of the fellowship outlined work detail and responsibility. This includes tasks like creating parliamentary questions for the MP, preparing speeches/documents for discussion during zero and special hours, raising issues of public concern, tracking participation, and many more. To date, with this fellowship as an impact, the PRC has trained more than 350+ youth, produced 84 fellows, reached more than 50+ parliamentarians, and catered to 60+ legislative input and knowledge demand across different provincial assembly members.
