Introduction to Gandaki Provincial Assembly
The Gandaki Provincial Assembly is the unicameral legislative body of Gandaki Province, one of Nepal's seven provinces. It's located in Pokhara, the provincial capital. The assembly consists of 60 members: 36 elected through first-past-the-post voting and 24 through proportional representation. The current assembly is the second one, elected in November 2022. The strongest parliamentary group is the Nepali Congress (NC) with 27 seats, followed by CPN (UML) with 22, CPN (Maoist Centre) with 8, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) with 2, and one independent member. Since 29 May 2024, Surendra Raj Pandey of the Nepali Congress has served as the Chief Minister and Leader of the House, while Hari Bahadur Chuman (CPN MC) holds the position of Opposition Leader.
