Introduction to Koshi Provincial Assembly
The Koshi Provincial Assembly is the legislative Division per the Parliamentary System of Democratic Governance at the Subnational Level, also known as the Provincial Level in Nepal. The Provincial Assembly of Koshi Province, established as provided for in Article 176 of the Constitution of Nepal, and the Provincial Assembly Secretariat have been established in the building of the former District Development Committee, Biratnagar, as provided for in Article 195 (2) of the Constitution, in order to operate and manage its affairs. The first meeting of the Assembly was held on Magh 22, 2074 BS. The work of the Provincial Assembly began with the first meeting of the Assembly. The Provincial Assembly and the Provincial Assembly Secretariat have been operating in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, Provincial Assembly Rules, 2074 (including amendments), Provincial Assembly Rules (including amendments), 2074 BS, Provincial Assembly Secretariat Operation Act, 2076 BS, and other prevailing laws. There is a provision for a total of 93 members in the Provincial Assembly, including 56 elected through the first-past-the-post electoral system and 37 elected on the basis of proportional representation. The Provincial Assembly has completed its first term by holding ten sessions. From the third session of the first term of the Provincial Assembly, the former Province No. 1, the current capital of Koshi Province, is Biratnagar in Morang district. The first session of the second term of the Provincial Assembly renamed this province as Koshi Province.
